60th Anniversary of Service to Kagoshima Airport

July 1st, 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of ANA’s service to Kagoshima Airport. On July 1st, 1957, Far Eastern Airlines, who later merged with ANA, began its routes from Kagoshima to Fukuoka as well as Kagoshima to Miyazaki to Osaka.

A commemorative ceremony was held at Kagoshima Airport. Guests reminisced about the days when traveling by air was the only option of transportation in those areas.

A cask-breaking ceremony, also known as “kagamiwari,” took place, which is believed to bring blessings of health, happiness, and prosperity to all. After the ceremonious tradition, a fashion show of former ANA ground staff uniforms was held. The uniform pieces reflected each time period’s fashion trends and the guests were enthralled.

Passengers were gifted a small souvenir and a friendly send off by colorfully uniformed staff.

ANA Group will continue to embody the “wings within ourselves” and connect all areas of Japan whilst respecting its history.
