The mileage required for ANA Japan International Flight Awards was previously categorized broadly by itinerary zone, but starting 04/2008, a new awards chart based on segment distance and season went into effect.

About itineraries

About stopovers

Your entire itinerary may have no more than 3 stopovers (a stay exceeding 24 hours). (When departing from overseas, only one stopover is permitted in Japan. When departing from Japan, stopovers in Japan are not permitted). Only one stopover is permitted for each city. Ground transportation during an itinerary is regarded as a stopover.

Eligible itineraries

Other itineraries

  • The departure location and the final destination on the itinerary may differ, but they must be in the same country.
  • The outbound destination and inbound departure point of an itinerary may differ. (Case 1)
  • Itineraries cannot pass through the country or region of origin en route to another destination. (Case 2)

Mixed classes

If you travel in different classes on an international itinerary of 2 segments or less, you will need half of the miles required for both classes combined. In the case of 3 segments or more, the number of miles necessary are calculated based on the number of miles needed for the highest class in the entire itinerary.

Notes

Due to the rule prohibiting transit between 2 points in the United States, itineraries containing segments from the continental United States to Guam via Japan solely on ANA are not allowed. Similarly, itineraries containing flight segments from Guam to the continental United States via Japan solely on ANA are not allowed.

About connections with Japanese domestic flights

You may take only ANA Japanese domestic flights (not with IBEX Airlines flight numbers).

If you transfer from a Japanese domestic flight with an ANA flight number to an international flight, or from an international flight to a Japanese domestic flight, the miles needed for all itinerary segments including domestic flights are calculated. However, you cannot make any stopovers (stays exceeding 24 hours). Itineraries originating overseas allow only one stopover in Japan.

Japanese domestic segments may be booked only for regular seats.

Awards usage by infants/children

Infants

When infants (defined as children under the age of 2 for international flights*) use an Award ticket, they may occupy a seat by using the same number of miles as an adult. On the other hand, for infants who are not using an Award, please pay separately for an infant fare (the child may not occupy a seat) or a child fare (the child may occupy a seat) in the same class as the accompanying adult.
* The age at the time of boarding is applicable.

Children

When children (defined as children at least 2 years old and under 12 for international flights*) travel on an Award ticket, they need to use the same number of miles as for an Award used by an adult.
* The age at the time of boarding is applicable.

When miles are not required

1 infant (a child under the age of 2)
can travel without using miles for a flight by sitting on an adult's lap. Even infants who travel sitting on an adult's lap require a separately purchased infant fare ticket in the same boarding class as the accompanying adult.

When miles are required

Use by children age 2 or older
Children may travel either by using the same number of miles as an adult and occupying a seat, or with the purchase of a ticket with either a Child fare or a discount.
For infants (children under the age of 2) to occupy a seat
Infants may either use the same number of miles as an adult or use a ticket purchased separately with either a Child fare or discount.
For 2 or more accompanying infants (children under the age of 2)
1-year-old child may sit on the lap of the adult (infant fare) and 2-year-old child must redeem Flight Award using the same amount of mileage as an adult or purchase child fare ticket.

* For domestic flights, infants are defined as children under the age of 3.
