Miyazaki has a tropical atmosphere with bright warm sunshine and Phoenix and Washington palm trees lining its roads. Along the banks of the peaceful Oyodo River is Tachibana Park with phoenix trees, "l´ombre" sunshades, and flower beds. There is a row of modern hotels and Japanese-style inns along the park. In the northern part of the city, there are Miyazaki Shrine with its main shrine solemnly standing in a dense forest, Peace Tower, and Haniwa Garden. There are also Heiwadai Park, where you can see the Sea of Hyuga; Seagaia, a hotel with one of the world´s largest indoor water parks; and the Sumiyoshi Coast, with a golf course. Along the Nichinan Coast in the south, there are many sightseeing spots. Aoshima Resort Kodomo-no-kuni (Children´s Land) Park overlooks the sea and has flowers, trees, and a playground. On Aoshima Island you can see thick subtropical trees and rocks with wave marks called Ogre´s Wash Board. There are also Horikiri Pass, one of the best scenic points along the Nichinan Coast; Cactus and Herb Garden, located on a slope where you can look over the sea; and Uto Shrine, with its red main shrine located in a sea cave. Miyazaki is such a great place to visit, with its tropical flowers, bright sunshine, and blue sea.

In the area called Higashi Shin-en, there is an "ooshirafuji" tree (wisteria with large white flowers) designated as a national natural treasure. This 400-year-old tree has three meters of circumference and beautiful flowers can be seen in mid-April.

Horikiri Pass * Tel: * Address: Oriuzako, Miyazaki-shi, Miyazaki * Opening hours: Always open * Admission: Free This is one of the most beautiful scenic spots on the Nichinan Coast, located about 2 km south of Aoshima. Down on the shoreline, "Oni-no-Sentakuita (ogre´s washboard - wavelike rock)" can be seen being "washed" with white waves. You can see the blue Sea of Hyuga stretching off into the far distance.

Aoshima * Tel: * Address: 2 Aoshima, Miyazaki-shi, Miyazaki * Opening hours: Always open * Admission: Free A small island with a circumference of about 1.5 km located in the center of the Nichinan Coast National Park. You can access the island from the mainland by crossing a bridge. The island has about 3,000 tropical and subtropical plants designated as national natural treasures.

Haniwa Garden * Tel: * Address: Inside Heiwadai Park, Shimokitakatamachi, Miyazaki-shi, Miyazaki * Opening hours: Always open, Haniwa-kan (exhibition hall) 8:30-17:00 * Admission: Free The garden is located in Heiwadai Park. There are about 400 different "haniwa" and "dogu" (ancient-style clay images) along the path through the woods. They were all created and donated by Ms. Masa Honbu. The Haniwa-kan is also inside the garden.

In addition to a rose garden and a freshwater tropical fish aquarium, there are a variety of amusement facilities. The Miyazaki Flower Festa is held here from the beginning of March to May.

The phoenix palms and hibiscus fringing the park are symbolic scenery of "tropical land" Miyazaki.

There is also a garden with various "haniwa" and a rest house in the corner of the park.
