Miyagi Prefecture is located in northeastern Honshu on the Sendai Plain with the Ou mountains to the east, the Kitakami Highlands to the northeast. Major rivers include the Abukuma and the Kitakami.

Climate
Pleasant summer; comparatively mild winter with little snow. Average annual temperature is 12.6°C with an annual average rainfall of 975 mm.
