Geography
Facing the Seto Inland Sea on the south and ascending into the Chugoku Mountains on the north, Okayama lies in the central area of southwestern Honshu, adjacent to Hiroshima Prefecture. The prefecture contains portions of two national parks and has seven prefectural parks. The south has subtropical flora, while the mountain heights are a temperate ecological zone.

Climate
Along with the other prefectures on the north shore of the Seto Inland Sea, the weather is mild and pleasant. The average annual temperature is 15.6°C (highest temperature 36.7°C and lowest -2.8°C). Annual rainfall is to 1,028mm. The prefecture boasts 277.6 days a year with rainfall less than 1mm (with the national average being 246.5 days), making it a salubrious place to live.
