Star Alliance Celebrating 20 Years of Connecting People and Cultures Frankfurt, Germany – May 13 th, 2017

Star Alliance members gathered in Frankfurt to commemorate their 20th Anniversary since the founders Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways, and United established the first global aviation alliance.

Currently there are 28 members serving more than 1,300 destinations in 191 countries. As Star Alliance enters the third decade since its formation, its strategies are shifting, “from network expansion, to providing a seamless experience,” to its 14 million annual customers.

Star Alliance introduced the baggage hub at the end of 2016, which helps member airlines to better track passenger’s baggage especially when transferring from one airline to another. In this heavily digitized world, Star Alliance CEO Jeffrey Goh advised, “our strategy is to develop digital capabilities centrally, which can then be used by our member carriers to enhance their own products, so they can offer extended care to their regular customers even when they are travelling elsewhere on the network.”

In celebration with the 20th Anniversary, Star Alliance and its 28 members launched a global mileage competition which started May 14th and ends on July 31st, 2017. 21 lucky winners will have the chance to win one million miles (or equivalent) from their selected Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Program. To participate, one will need to post a picture of themselves and share a “cultural experience” they enjoyed and enter at http://www.staralliance.com/mileagemillionaire. Winners are to be announced on September 28, 2017.

The following day there was a cocktail party and Gala Dinner with the CEO’s of the Star Alliance members and uniformed staff along with media personnel.

As a Star Alliance member, ANA will continue to work hard with our partners to provide a seamless experience for our millions of customers.
