Local farmers deliver fresh vegetables and fruits unique to the island every day, and the terrace tables serve delicious regional dishes like Miyako soba noodles and Okinawa tempura. Miyako Island mangoes
Miyako Island is the top producer of mangoes in Japan. The brilliant sun and mineral-rich soils of the island help to cultivate delicious mangoes. Miyako Island mangoes are known for their lush aroma and nectar-like flavor that are unforgettable with just one bite. During the mango season from June to August, an event called Mango Republic brings together mangoes from all across the island.
Miyako Island melons
Miyako Island melons are at their best in the winter. With an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius even during the winter, Miyako Island is the southernmost producer of melons in Japan. Harvesting starts in December, with two harvest periods in December to February and April to May. At Island Station Miyako, an event called Melomelomelon Island is held every year from December to February, where mouthwatering Miyako Island melons with a high sugar degree of 14 or over are offered in heaps. This is the only place where seasonal melons can be bought during the year-end, New Year’s holidays and Valentine’s periods.
