Carrying Liquid, Aerosols, and Gels (LAGs) on Board [International Flights]

Carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) on board aircraft is restricted based on orders of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The restrictions on carrying LAGs on board aircraft imposed by countries and regions to which ANA flights are operated are described below.

  • ・If a codeshare flight or flight operated by another airline is included in the itinerary, the baggage rules of the other airline may apply.
  • ・When traveling on Japanese domestic sectors using a ticket for which the International Conditions of Carriage apply, the baggage rules for international flights will apply.
  • ・Please be advised that in the event that it is impossible to confirm whether or not an item can be transported by airplane before the departure time, the request for transport may be rejected.

Applicable Flights

The rules apply to flights departing from the following countries.

  • - All international flights departing from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Australia
  • - International routes and domestic routes (flights within the EU): EU member states*, United States, Thailand, India, Canada, Mainland China, Philippines, Cambodia

* The following 28 member states of the European Union (EU)
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK
In addition to the above EU member states, these restrictions also apply to Iceland, Switzerland, and Norway.

Restrictions on Carrying LAGs on Board

Carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) on board is restricted as follows.

  1. All liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs), must be carried in containers with a capacity no larger than 100 ml* each.
    LAGs in containers with a capacity of more than 100 ml even if the content is less than 100 ml are also not permitted to be carried on and must be placed in the checked baggage.
    Also includes drinks, creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, sprays, shampoos, shaving foams, aerosols such as deodorizers, pastes such as toothpastes, semisolid materials, and other similar items.
    * 100 ml should be considered as 100 g even though the density may be different.
  2. Those containers must be placed in a transparent, resealable plastic bag (zip-locked bag) with a volume no larger than one liter (1,000 ml), and a two side total no larger than 40 cm. The containers must fit into the bag which must be completely closed.
    Please prepare the plastic bag in advance on your own.
  3. Each passenger is permitted to carry on board only one such bag.
    Upon security check, present the transparent plastic bag separately from other baggage.

Handling of Medications, Baby Milk/Baby Food, and Restricted Food for Special Dietary Requirements

Medications, baby milk / baby food, and restricted food for special dietary requirements of an amount required during the flight can be carried on board without placing them in a transparent plastic bag.
However, baby milk and baby food is only permitted for passengers traveling with an infant.
Regarding medication, a copy of the prescription or a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner indicating the name of the illness, etc., may be requested upon security check.

[Departures from the United States]
Limited to breast milk, it may be carried on board even when an infant is not traveling together with the passenger.
However, it must be presented to the security inspectors upon security check.

Handling of Duty-free Items

LAGs purchased at duty-free shops, etc., at the departure airport can be carried on board. However, the following requirements may apply depending on the country.

  • ・ LAGs must be kept in a sealed tamper-evident transparent plastic bag (ICAO specification) and the bag must not be opened.
  • ・ Receipts must be placed inside the bag as evidence of purchase.

For connecting flights, the rules of the country of connection apply to the handling of LAGs including duty-free items.

  • * Once you go through immigration at the connection airport and enter the relevant country, the airport will be considered the departure airport and the respective handling for departure airports will apply.

Connecting in Japan (Narita, Haneda, or Kansai airports), the United States, Hong Kong, Mainland China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Canada, or Australia

LAGs (duty-free items) which meet the following requirements can be carried on board after passing through the security check.

  • ・ LAGs must be kept in a sealed tamper-evident transparent plastic bag (ICAO specification) and the bag must not be opened.
  • ・ Receipts must be placed inside the bag as evidence of purchase.

Connecting in Japan (except for Narita, Haneda, or Kansai airports), Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, Cambodia, or India

Carrying LAGs purchased at duty-free shops of other airports on board is restricted even if they are duty-free items and the rules described above in 2. Restrictions on Carrying LAGs on Board apply. Therefore, please note that LAGs which exceed 100 ml will be confiscated.

Connecting in the EU

LAGs (duty-free items) which meet the following requirements can be carried on board after passing through the security check.

  • ・ LAGs must be kept in a sealed tamper-evident transparent plastic bag (ICAO specification) and the bag must not be opened.
  • ・ Receipts must be placed inside the bag as evidence of purchase.

The restrictions may change without prior notice. Please confirm the latest information with a security inspector.
The final decision on carry-on will be made by the security inspector, the same as for ordinary security checks. We ask for your understanding and cooperation.
