ANA Seeks Osaka-Denpasar Route Opening FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TOKYO-9 October 1998 All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA) ,applied today to the Ministry of Transportation to open an Osaka-Denpasar route. Service is planned to start 23 December with flights twice weekly using a 216-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft. ANA opened a Tokyo-Jakarta-Denpasar route, also with service twice weekly, in October 1996. However, from May of this year, decreased passenger demand due to political instability in the region led the company to suspend operations at the end of August. The decision to open an Osaka-Denpasar route is based on ANA's belief that passenger demand will recover now that political unrest in the area has largely subsided. Indonesia, one of the top ten overseas destinations for Japanese tourists, is renowned for its beautiful scenery and its vibrant culture. Bali, nicknamed "Heaven on Earth", is among the most famous resort spots in the world. Nearly half a million Japanese tourists visited Indonesia during 1997. Route Details
