ANA Files Application for Code-Share with
VARIG Brazilian Airlines

~ Operations Scheduled to Begin in Late March on Two Japan-Brazil Routes ~

25 January, 1999 _ All Nippon Airways (ANA),today filed an application to the Japanese Ministry of Transport for the commencement of code-share operations with VARIG Brazilian Airlines.

The application has been made as a result of the new Japan-Brazil aviation treaty, which was formed by both governments in December 1998.

ANA and VARIG have agreed to begin code-share operations from late March on two Japan-Brazil routes (a total of 5 flights per week) by putting ANA codes on VARIG operated flights, subject to Japanese and Brazilian government approval.

In addition to code-share operations, ANA is also preparing for other services such as a joint frequent flyers program, through check-in and common use of airport lounges with VARIG.

VARIG Brazilian Airlines, the largest airline in Latin America, started service to Japan in 1968. VARIG is also a member of Star Alliance, comprising Air Canada, Lufthansa German Airlines, SAS _ Scandinavian Airlines, Thai Airways International and United Airlines. Air New Zealand and Ansett Australia will join Star Alliance this spring, with All Nippon Airways scheduled to enter in October of this year.
