February 10, 2000 - All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced that it would welcome its 25 millionth international passenger on February 14 -- St Valentine's Day. ANA, which inaugurated scheduled international passenger services in 1986, will celebrate the occasion with a special ceremony at Tokyo's Narita airport.

ANA began building its international network from March 1986 with its first scheduled flight from Tokyo to Guam. Within the same year, ANA started services to Los Angeles and Washington D.C. from Tokyo, and soon after began service from to China, Australia, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Flights out of Osaka's Kansai International Airport were started in 1994, helping ANA to further expand its service to Asia and Europe. ANA plans to begin service to Honolulu from Osaka from March 26 of this year.

In early 1998, a more liberal aviation treaty between Japan and the U.S. gave ANA new freedom to increase its transpacific service. ANA subsequently added service from Tokyo to Honolulu, San Francisco and Chicago.

ANA currently serves 28 international destinations in 14 countries and in the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999, the company carried a total of nearly 42 million passengers on its domestic and international route networks. ANA's 25 millionth passenger is expected to depart Tokyo aboard NH 10, the Pokmon Jet _ U.S. Version, bound for New York.
