- ANA the World's First Airline to Order all Three Boeing 777 Derivatives - |
15 June, 1999 _ All Nippon Airways (ANA), today announced its decision to add the Boeing 777-200ER to its existing fleet, converting a previous order for 777 type aircraft. Operations of the B777-200ER are planned to begin from November of this year. ANA already operates Boeing 777-200 (since December 1995) and Boeing 777-300 aircraft (since July 1998), and with this decision will become the world's first airline to have ordered all three of the Boeing 777 derivatives. The B777-200ER has the same dimensions as the B777-200. However, thanks to an increased fuel tank capacity and a more powerful engine (the PW4090, also used with the B777-300), the B777-200ER has an extended range similar to that of the B747-400, making it a state-of-the-art twin engine jet. With its extended range and a passenger capacity which complements ANA's existing B747 and B767 fleet, the addition of the B777-200ER allows for maximum fleet utilization efficiency on international routes, supporting improved operational profitability. ANA also expects increased efficiency in maintenance, operations, training and components through the new aircraft type's introduction. The new 777-200ERs will be equipped with the latest inflight systems to ensure the travelling pleasure and comfort of ANA customers. First Class will be outfitted with ANA's renowned "Fullflat Seat"*, offering 180 degree reclining comfort, and all classes - from First to Economy - will have personal seat televisions with a wide selection of video programs and games. First Class and Club ANA (Business Class) customers will also enjoy use of an AVOD (Audio-Video-on-Demand) system*, giving passengers the freedom to watch inflight video programs at whatever time they please. ANA currently has plans to add a total of four B777-200ER aircraft to its fleet, the first of which will be delivered in October of this year. Operations using the new aircraft will begin primarily on international routes to China and Asia, presently operated using B777-200 aircraft. However, the B777-200ERs may be deployed on long-haul routes to the US and Europe in the future. * these systems to be available with delivery of the second B777-200ER in April of 2000. |
