ANA to Officially Join Star Alliance

29 October, 1999 - All Nippon Airways (ANA), today announced that it will officially join Star Alliance - the airline network for Earth - on Sunday 31 October, 1999.

Together, ANA and Star Alliance will be able to offer passengers enhanced benefits and convenience, including through check-in services (allowing passengers to be checked right through to their destination from the origin airport), joint frequent flyer programs (allowing customers to accumulate and redeem mileage points on all scheduled flights operated by Star Alliance member airlines) and smoother connections.

It is in the face of the new reality of diversified customer needs and a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected that ANA, as an integral part of its management strategy, joined Star Alliance. Through joining Star Alliance, ANA will be able to offer passengers increased benefits over a worldwide network, as well as being able to strengthen ANA's international presence in overseas markets. By linking its network with the extensive Star Alliance network, ANA expects more passengers to choose ANA to travel to their chosen destinations. In addition, by sharing passenger lounges and exploring joint use of airport facilities, the company hopes to be able to reduce operating costs.

Star Alliance is an alliance of the world's top airlines, founded with the objective of providing superior customer service and convenience. With ANA as the ninth member of the alliance, Star Alliance carriers will serve more than 760 destinations around the world in 112 countries.

As of October 31, the members of Star Alliance will be Air Canada, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Ansett Australia, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Scandinavian Airlines System - SAS, Thai Airways International, United Airlines and Varig Brazilian Airlines. Mexicana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, and Singapore Airlines will become members next year.

ANA is committed to providing customers with an increasingly seamless and comfortable travel experience. As a cornerstone of ANAs international strategy, entering Star Alliance will allow ANA to maintain its own unique service concept while joining with the members of Star Alliance to expand services on a global scale.
