ANA Announces Domestic Fares for Second Quarter (July-September)
July-September Period Sees Continuation of Round-trip Fares, Super Discount Fares and Shortening of High Demand Periods;Survey Reveals "Super Discount" Fare Type Popular with Users, Creating New Passenger Demand

20 April, 2000 — All Nippon Airways (ANA) today announced its first summer season fares since the deregulation of the domestic air services market from February 1, 2000. The new fares, covering the period from July-September, offer an increased range of choice for passengers over the old fare system, and ANA hopes that by providing fares that are easy and convenient to use the company will be able to further boost revenues in its domestic business.

For the second quarter of fiscal 2001 (ending March 31, 2001) ANA will introduce a new "standard fare" which will be used as a reference point for all ANA fare types. The standard fare will be ¥2000 more than existing regular one-way fares. In addition, during limited periods of high demand, ANA will create a new fare type - a "standard one-way fare" - which will correspond with standard fare levels. However, compared with peak season fares in previous years, the one-way standard fare will be applicable to a much shorter travel period: 11 days on most routes, and 4 days on 11 out of a total of 84 routes - this compared with 47 days on all routes in 1999.

Round-trip fare levels, which are an average of 2% less than 1999 "normal fare" (full-fare) levels, will be available on all routes for the entire July-September period excepting an 11 day period from August 10-August 20. ANA's "tokuwari" discount fare (offering discounts on flights booked up until the day before departure on selected routes), will also be offered throughout the period.

ANA's "Super Discount" fare, a fare introduced from April offering travel on all ANA domestic routes for just ¥10,000 (US $95) during specified reservation and travel periods, will be offered for 10 days during the period - allowing passengers to take advantage of unrivaled prices for summer travel.

"Super Discount" Fare Survey Results

An internet survey conducted by ANA in March revealed that the majority of passengers praised ANA's new "super discount" fare type as "highly transparent" and "easy to understand". Super discount fares, offered for specified booking and travel periods, are applicable for all available seats throughout ANA's domestic network.

From April-June, ANA offered super discount fares for a total of nine days and attracted over 280,000 reservations. During the first "super discount" travel period (April 17-April 23, for fares sold February 17-February 23), 190,000 passengers are booked to travel using "super discount" tickets - representing approximately one third of total individual domestic passenger numbers for the period. Overall, ANA expects an overall increase of 150,000 individual passengers compared with the same period last year - meaning that approximately 80% of passengers travelling on super discount tickets may be considered as "additional" passengers.

Survey results further revealed that 80% of respondents chose to travel on ANA because of the availability of super discount fares - again, representing an expansion of passenger demand in response to the new fare type.

Details of all fare types for the July-September period may be found on the attached pages.
