ANA London-Based Cabin Attendants Take Flight

TOKYO, August 22, 2001 — All Nippon Airways (ANA) will embark on a new era in its 50-year history when the first of 26 new London-based ANA cabin attendants report for duty tomorrow on Flight 202 from London to Tokyo.

"ANA's goal is to be the first choice of passengers worldwide, and we're excited to be adding a new feature to our award-winning international product," said ANA President and CEO Yoji Ohashi.

"This is a further demonstration of our commitment to continually improve service and provide the utmost in comfort and convenience for international travelers, and respond more accurately to the needs of the international traveler."

In total, 26 graduates of an intensive training program including three weeks of Japanese language lessons, six weeks of specialized training at the ANA Flight Academy in Tokyo and two weeks of in-flight on-the-job-training on routes from Tokyo Narita to Europe and North America, have been certified to fly as ANA cabin attendants. Service operations on the London-Tokyo route will be expanded to ANA's Frankfurt -Tokyo and Paris-Tokyo routes.

The 26 new ANA cabin attendants all speak English and either French or German fluently. Many have previous experience with other airlines.

On September 10, ANA will accept its second group of 22 trainees to undergo the same intensive training program as the first group did when they joined the company on May 21.

ANA, which transported more than 43 million passengers in 2000, making it Japan's largest and the world's seventh largest airline, serves 35 gateways in Japan and 25 cities in 12 countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

ANA is a member of Star Alliance, the airline network for Earth, which strives to offer travelers seamless air transportation service with the usual benefits including, through check-in, lounge access and reciprocal frequent flyer programs that qualify toward top tier status.
