ANA and Virgin Atlantic tie up Frequent Flyer Programmes

Tokyo, May 12th, 2003 - From June 1st this year, ANA (All Nippon Airways) and Virgin Atlantic Airways will tie up their Frequent Flyer Programmes, meaning that ANA and Virgin Atlantic passengers will be able to accrue and redeem mileage on each other’s networks.

ANA Mileage Club (AMC) members will be eligible to earn mileage for every Virgin Atlantic flight they take, and also apply for award tickets on the Virgin Atlantic network. In the same way, Virgin Atlantic’s flying club members will be able to earn mileage on their accounts and receive award tickets on the ANA network.

Both companies see this as a great step forward in creating added value, choice and convenience for passengers, and hope that this will be just the first move towards closer ties in the future.

To commemorate the new agreement, ANA and Virgin Atlantic passengers travelling between Narita and Heathrow on full fare or PEX tickets in any class will be credited with double mileage, for the period of June 1st to July 19th.

Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin Atlantic says of the agreement, “we are incredibly delighted to be able to announce our new partnership with ANA. This will allow our flying club members to expand their international travel options while also giving the opportunity to earn miles for free Virgin Atlantic and ANA travel. I’m sure this new relationship will prove extremely popular with them.”

ANA’s President and CEO, Yoji Ohashi, adds, “this is a great moment for us and hopefully the start of a long and fruitful partnership. Both ANA and Virgin Atlantic are known for their customer-oriented service on the ground and in the air, and we are delighted that by taking this first step, our passengers can now enjoy the best that Japan and the UK have to offer.”

ANA ranks as one of the top ten largest airlines in the world in terms of passengers carried, and operates 581 flights a day to 34 destinations within Japan itself and to 20 cities in 10 countries. These include Vietnam, China and Korea in Asia, the Pacific islands of Hawaii and Guam, as well the United States. ANA’s European gateways are London, Frankfurt and Paris.

Virgin Atlantic is the UK’s second largest long-haul international airline, and is renowned for its innovation and award winning service delivery.
