ANA Group Introducing New Uniforms For Cabin Attendants and Ground Staff |
TOKYO, MAY 27, 2004 Starting next spring, more than 10,000 cabin attendants and ground staff of ANA Group airlines (ANA, Air Nippon, Air Japan, and A-Net) will be sporting new uniforms designed by Japans Atsuro Tayama. |
ANA Group airlines have been flying domestically under the ANA brand since April, and this will be the first time that all Group staff will wear the uniforms of the same design. |
The uniform worn by our cabin attendants and ground staff is the most highly visible form of branding for our customers, said Junko Yamauchi, Senior Vice President of ANAs Inflight Services Department and the first female board member among airlines in Japan. Once all of us are wearing the same uniforms it will increase passengers familiarity and sense of affinity with our Group, and make it easier for them to use our services. |
At a press conference today at the ANA Hotel Tokyo, ANA unveiled the uniforms in three variations each for the 5,200 cabin attendants and 5,000 ground staff. A decision on the final designs will be made in the autumn, aided by the results of a survey carried out among the travelling public. All three variations have in common ANAs corporate colour, blue, as a base, which will be combined with an elegant purple scarf; a colour combination designed to invoke the trust and familiarity of ANAs passengers. The design also incorporates a lamé stripe, a feature not often found in uniforms. |
The survey will be carried out in June on board ANA Group flights. Questionnaires will be handed out in flight and answers sought via mobile phone or the Internet. Between June 6 and June 25, passengers also will be able to see the uniforms for themselves modelled by cabin attendants at departure gates of Sapporo, Haneda, Nagoya, Itami, Fukuoka, and Okinawa airports (dates vary according to the airport). |
The three designs to be chosen from are described as follows: |
·Design A Stylish, with clear lines and an embossed `3-D` stripe. The compact shoulder lines of the jacket and its peaked lapel are the points to note. ·Design B Feminine and elegant, the jacket has a simple collarless design with a round neck, and a compact shoulder line. ·Design C Sharp, with a unisex cut. The jacket has a small silhouette across the shoulder and peaked lapel. |
All passengers who take part in the survey will be entered into a raffle, and 100 will win leather wallets designed by Atsuro Tayama. |
The final choice of the uniforms will be made taking into consideration the results of the survey, and the opinions of cabin attendants and ground staff. |
As a first step in the introduction of the new uniform, staff and customers were questioned about the image presented by uniformed airline staff. As a second step, a New Uniform Committee was set up and a designer appointed. Once chosen, this will be ANAs first new uniform since November 1991, and the 9th uniform for ANA cabin attendants. |
The man behind the new designs, Atsuro Tayama has been exhibiting his Paris Collection since 1991, and has achieved worldwide acclaim with his elegant yet edgy contemporary designs, which combine sleek lines and the relaxed feel of the West with the subtlety of his Eastern influence. | ||
