ANA and Deutsche Bahn Create Japan's First Air-Rail Connecting Service

TOKYO August 25, 2004 - ANA (All Nippon Airways) and Deutsche Bahn AG will begin a connecting service from September 16 this year, linking ANA’s German gateway, Frankfurt, with the cities of Dusseldorf, Cologne and Stuttgart via the Deutsche Bahn railway network.

In a first for a Japanese airline, ANA Deutsche Bahn Connection will allow passengers to incorporate Intercity Express (ICE) train travel in their ANA tickets at the time of booking their air travel. Passengers arriving at Frankfurt airport on ANA flights can thus pass smoothly from one mode of transport to the other, and vice-versa, with Deutsche Bahn trains even carrying ANA ‘flight’ numbers for greater familiarity and convenience.

Travel on Deutsche Bahn ICE is available in two classes, first and second, and includes complementary access to railway lounges in Frankfurt Airport, Cologne and Stuttgart stations for passengers travelling in the first class carriage. ANA Mileage Club Members making use of the service will also be eligible to accrue mileage for each sector travelled. Reservations and ticketing for the new service will start on September 1.
