Airport Procedures

This page will provide information regarding various procedures which need to be performed prior to boarding, including check-in and baggage inspections, for customers flying international routes.

Passengers Departing from an International Airport (Narita, Haneda, Kansai or Nagoya)

1. Boarding Procedures (Check-in)

Please check what procedures you will need to complete at the airport.

Customers Who Have Completed Check-in Procedures Online

You will not need to perform check-in procedures at the airport.*
On the day of your flight, please bring with you to the airport a mobile device which can display your "Mobile Boarding Pass" which includes a 2D bar code, or a Boarding Pass printed at home, as well as your travel documents.

*Depending on the departure airport, you will need to complete procedures at the Baggage Drop-Off counter.

Passengers Performing Check-in Procedures at the Airport

Please make sure you have all travel documents required to perform check-in procedures as well as your international flight ticket or e-ticket receipt.

Procedures can be performed at the counter or using a self-service check-in machine.

ANA International Route Airport Check-in Counter Hours of Operation

■For information regarding check-in procedures using a self-service check-in machine, please see "International Route Self-Service Check-In Machines".
*The check-in counter closes 1 hour before departure (40 minutes before departure at Haneda).
*Please make sure that you have available all the required travel documents, including passports, visas and ID cards, as they will need to be checked by a staff member during check-in.

  • *Hours of operation are subject to change without notice.Additionally, hours of operation are subject to sudden changes depending on your flight's status on the day of your flight.
  • *Check-in start times and departure and arrival terminals for international flights departing from airports other than those specified above will vary depending on the airport and your flight.
  • *Departure and arrival terminals may vary for passengers flying on codeshare flights operated by partner airlines, so please contact the operating airline in question.
  • *The Barcode is non-transferable.

2. Checking Baggage

Baggage which cannot be carried onto the aircraft should be checked in.
Large baggage as well as dangerous articles such as scissors and nail clippers cannot be carried onto the aircraft.These items must be checked in.
The amount of baggage which you can check free of charge will also vary depending on your ticket's specific class and route.Additionally, please make sure that you do not check in any valuables.

Customers Who Have Completed Check-in Procedures Online

Customers who have already completed check-in procedures via online check-in and have baggage that needs to be checked in should proceed to the "Baggage Counter."Passengers who do not have any baggage to check in should proceed directly to the security checkpoint.

Passengers Performing Check-in Procedures at the Airport

Passengers who are performing check-in procedures at the airport and have baggage that needs to be checked in should drop off their baggage at the Check-in Counter.Passengers who do not have any baggage to check in should proceed to the security checkpoint.
  • *If domestic multi-airport transit (e.g. Haneda-Narita or Itami-Kansai) is included in the itinerary, baggage check-in is required at the departure airport of the international flight.

3. Security

Make sure that you do not have any dangerous articles in your possession.
Security has been enhanced at all airports in recent years to prevent hijacking and terrorism.We ask that our customers cooperate to ensure a safe trip.

4. Immigration

Show your passport for inspection.
Show both your passport and your flight ticket for immigration inspections.Whether or not you will need to fill out an immigration card will depend on the country (Japanese nationals need not fill in a Japanese immigration card).You can take advantage of duty free shops after passing through immigration.

Passengers holding flight tickets or cards entitling them to use the lounge can relax in the lounge prior to departure.

5. Boarding

You should begin walking to your boarding gate 30 minutes prior to departure.
Once you have finished any shopping, please make sure that you proceed to your boarding gate with plenty of time to spare.The airport is quite large so going to the incorrect gate could cause you to miss your flight.
Departure time refers to the time by which all passengers have boarded the plane and the plane has left the gate.Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Passengers Connecting from a Japanese Domestic Route

Please make sure you have all travel documents required to perform boarding procedures as well as your international flight ticket or e-ticket receipt.Procedures can be completed at the counter.
Please show all the required documents at the counter of the airport from which your domestic flight is departing.

Passengers performing procedures at the airport will be given a Domestic Check-in Notice and an International Boarding Pass.

Information Regarding the Check-in Counters at Various Japanese Domestic Airports.
・Please complete all procedures at the airport at least 30 minutes in advance.
・Only domestic check-in procedures for domestic flights can be performed at Kitakyushu Airport / Iki Airport.Please complete all procedures for your international flight at the airport from which your international flight is departing.

2. Checking Baggage

Customers who have already completed check-in procedures via online check-in and have baggage that needs to be checked in should proceed to the "Baggage Counter."Passengers who do not have any baggage to deposit should proceed directly to the security checkpoint.

Passengers Performing Boarding Procedures at the Airport

Passengers who are performing check-in procedures at the airport and have baggage that needs to be checked in should inform the staff accordingly during check-in and drop off their baggage at the Check-in Counter.Passengers who do not have any baggage to deposit should proceed to the security checkpoint.
  • *If domestic multi-airport transit (e.g. Haneda-Narita or Itami-Kansai) is included in the itinerary, baggage check-in is required at the departure airport of the international flight.

3. Security

  • (1) Scan your domestic flight check-in notice, printed boarding pass or 2D bar code shown on your "Mobile Boarding Pass" using one of the machines installed at the security checkpoint.
  • (2) Please wait while your "Boarding Pass" containing your seat number and gate number is issued.

4. Boarding

Please come to the boarding gate at least 10 minutes prior to departure.When passing through the gate, please place the 2D barcode which you scanned at the security checkpoint over the SKiP reader located at the ticket gate.

*Please be aware that if you are not present at the boarding gate at least 10 minutes prior to departure, you may not be able to board the flight in time, regardless of whether or not you previously completed the international check-in procedures.
You can also find boarding gate information on a flight information board at the airport.

2. Procedures for International Route Departure Airports (Narita, Haneda, Kansai and Nagoya)

1. Boarding Procedures (Check-in)

Customers who have already completed check-in procedures up to their international destination airport do not need to check-in at their intermediate Japanese domestic airport.

2. Checking Baggage

Customers who have already deposited their baggage at the departure airport of their Japanese domestic flight do not need to collect their baggage at the departure airport of their international flight.
Please proceed directly to the security checkpoint.

3. Security

Please undergo security inspections.

4. Immigration

Please undergo immigration inspections.

5. Boarding

Please proceed to your boarding gate before boarding starts.
*Should you not be present at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to departure, you may not be able to board the flight in time.
