Promoting Work-Life Balance

In promoting diversity, the ANA Group believes it is essential to create an environment in which employees can fully demonstrate their abilities and work with enthusiasm. The Group’s Motivation Promotion Office places importance on individual lifestyles and values to promote work-life balance that creates synergies for the Group as a whole. With activities that include maintaining various systems, reviewing operations to introduce ways to reduce working time, and conducting nationwide seminars with outside experts, the Motivation Promotion Office works to create a culture that accommodates diverse working styles.

Childcare

  • Conducted seminars for people taking childcare leave seven times during the fiscal year ended March 2012.
  • Conducted “Mom and Dad’s Workplace Visit” day (ANA Kids’ Day) at the head office, Haneda, Osaka Crew Training Center and Fukuoka during the fiscal year ended March 2012.
  • Extended the pregnancy and childcare leave system to cover early pregnancy; introduced options including reduced working hours, childcare days, fewer work days, and a partial employment system for cabin crew.
  • Introduced the “wiwiw” childcare leave support system, which also provides information via the Motivation Promotion Office internal web page.
  • During the fiscal year ended March 2012, 397 people took pregnancy and childcare leave.

“Mon and Dad's Workplace Visit” Day (ANA Kids' Day)

To promote work-life balance.
ANA holds an annual “Mom and Dad's Workplace Visit” day (ANA Kids' Day) linked to specific activities. Children of ANA Group employees are invited to see the workplaces of their parents, and experience what their work is like. The goals are to broaden the scope of parent-child conversations at home, and to let participants meet colleagues' families, thus fostering a culture of respect for and raising awareness of one another's work-life balance.

Nursing Care

  • In addition to nursing care leave, employees can accumulate special leave days, carried over year by year, that can be used for nursing care (maximum of 120 days).
  • Conducted nursing care seminars (Tokyo and Osaka).
  • The ANA Group contracted with a non-profit organization (NPO) that assists with support for both work and nursing care, and introduced the NPO to employees.
  • During the fiscal year ended March 2012, 19 people took nursing care leave.

In addition, ANA has introduced the Waku Waku Leave System, which allows employees to take time off for study and volunteering, and Telework, which allows employees to work from home. These and other programs support employee work-life balance.

Telework

ANA has introduced Telework, a system that allows employees to work from home as needed. As of June 2012, about 60 employees are using it. In 2011, the ANA Group received an honorable mention at the Japan Telework Association's 12th Annual Telework Promotion Awards. While many information technology companies have introduced work-from-home programs, the ANA Group was recognized for being an airline that promotes telecommuting.
