Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (hereinafter, "Expo 2025") is held in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture for the period from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
The ANA Group has been supporting the EXPO2025KANSAI Tourism Council for three years since 2023.
Resonating with the Expo 2025 theme, "Designing Future Society for Our Lives," which promotes the creation of a sustainable society, the ANA Group held a one-day event on June 20 at a special booth for tourism promotion set up in the Festival Station located within the venue of the world exposition.
On the day, a total of around 600 customers visited the booth and showed an interest in the sustainability initiatives to be implemented by the airline industry.
At the booth, the environmental measures implemented by the ANA Group for the creation of a sustainable society were introduced through exhibits and videos, including the following.
In order to increase the fuel efficiency of its fleet and reduce CO2 emissions from aircraft, ANA has adopted riblet film, which imitates the structure of shark skin, for some of its planes. This film reduces air resistance on the fuselage surface and is expected to help reduce the consumption of fuel by around 250 tons and the emission of CO2 by roughly 800 tons per airplane annually.
The ANA Group is upcycling the uniforms of its maintenance engineers into unique products, such as bags, for sale. Through this initiative, the Group aims to reduce the amount of waste it produces and make more effective use of resources.
ANA maintains three specially painted aircraft as symbols of its efforts to create a sustainable society, specifically, two Future Promise Jet planes and one Future Promise Prop plane. These planes have the green-based ANA Future Promise logo and green leaf motif on one side of the fuselage and the SAF Flight Initiative logo and water motif on the other side. These logos and motifs symbolize the various measures implemented by the ANA Group for the reduction of environmental impact.
As one of the measures implemented under the ANA Future Promise Jet project, ANA adopted a vegan leather named "RINGO-TEX" for its headrest covers. This leather is made in Japan from apple pomace by Aomori-based appcycle inc.
Ms. Takada (pictured second from left in the first row), who was in charge of the one-day exhibition at the special booth, provided the following account of the event.
Ms. Takada: In April 2025, ANA Akindo launched a project team for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan at its Osaka branch, which is located within the Expo 2025 host city. We exhibited at the booth as part of the project. We plan to hold the event twice, including the first one already held, where we exhibited ANA Future Promise (AFP) project-related materials in line with the Expo 2025 theme, "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."
For the exhibition, we reviewed the AFP and reaffirmed its importance. We were therefore able to explain the AFP to visitors in our own words.
Along with other exhibits, we also displayed flight attendant aprons designed to echo the ANA Future Promise Jet & Prop planes. We even let visitors try on the aprons, which featured water and green motifs, and to touch some of the exhibits. We also asked them to reply to a questionnaire survey, which we conducted by using a panel showing our flight routes. We thus provided visitors with hands-on experiences, rather than just a passive experience of looking at the exhibitions and listening to our explanations. This approach got more people interested in our initiatives.
Exhibiting within the EXPO 2025 venue proved an enjoyable challenge, and by introducing the ANA Group's long-term environmental targets at a venue crowded with visitors from across the world, I think we were able to play a role in helping the ANA Group take another step toward contributing to "Designing Future Society for Our lives" under the Group's management vision of "Uniting the World in Wonder."
Going forward, ANA will continue to make contributions to the creation of an even more affluent society.
