This page provides information regarding checking in or carrying on musical instruments on board. The following information applies to flights departing on or after {yyyy-mm-dd-2}.
If you wish to carry a musical instrument on board of a size which exceeds the free baggage allowance for carry-on baggage, you will be required to pay cabin baggage fees and purchase an additional seat.
They may be carried onto the aircraft as carry-on baggage.
However, please notify ANA airport staff if the length of any of the three dimensions exceeds 55 cm, 40 cm, or 25 cm (45 cm, 35 cm, and 20 cm for smaller aircraft). We will check the size. Please store your instrument in the overhead compartment.
Please check in your musical instrument at the baggage counter. Special instrument cases are available depending on the musical instrument.

Special cases are available for guitars and small instruments.
Between fiscal years 2025 and 2026, the system integration of domestic and international flights will lead to the standardization of various services and rules. Due to resulting changes in baggage rules, we will discontinue the use of some dedicated containers for domestic checked baggage as of January 31, 2026. Customers are requested to ensure their baggage is properly and sufficiently packed prior to check-in.

Please notify the ANA staff at the airport counter when you check in your baggage before departure.
If you wish to check in a contrabass, please contact the Reservation and Customer Service Center in Japan or the U.S. in advance, regardless of whether you wish to borrow a contrabass case or not.
We can lend you a contrabass case if you make a reservation for one no later than 2 days prior to the departure date.
Please note that you will not be able to borrow a contrabass case if you do not reserve it in advance.
Due to limited storage space in the cargo departments of the DH4, CR7, DH2, AT4, AT7, and AR4 aircraft types, contrabasses cannot be accepted on these aircraft types.

We can lend you a contrabass case if you make a reservation for one no later than 2 days prior to the departure date. Please contact the ANA Domestic Reservation and Customer Service Center in advance regardless of whether you wish to borrow a contrabass case or not.
Please check in your instrument at least 50 minutes (Haneda airport: 60 minutes) before the departure time of your flight.
Violin cases of a size allowed for carry-on are available for passengers who wish to carry their violin on board.
Even if your personal violin case exceeds the size restrictions for carry-on baggage, you can carry your violin and the bows on board if you carry them in this particular violin case lent to customers for this purpose.
Please stow the borrowed violin case in the overhead compartment and check in your personal violin case.
