Summary of comments from experts
ESG in general
- Rating organizations are not well aware of what is actually going on at companies. Holding a dialogue meeting like this one therefore helps these organizations deepen their understanding of actual corporate situations and the measures implemented by companies.
- Companies need to have a system to ensure that the Board of Directors is informed of sustainability-related issues and it is expected to disclose the issues reported to the Board and the responses made by the Board.
Environment
- Regarding progress with the transition scenario toward the achievement of the net-zero emissions target by fiscal 2050, ANA needs to disclose information in a more effective manner to show whether or not its measures to achieve the SAF procurement rate target (10% in FY2030) have been implemented successfully.
- The green operation measures are very interesting. Visualization of the effect will incentivize pilots, which will in turn further foster the implementation of the measures.
- It is highly appreciated that ANA is promoting collaboration across its supply chain for the procurement of SAF not only for the use of SAF for its flights but also for the procurement of materials for SAF and the manufacturing of the fuel.
Human Rights
- What is put to the test by stakeholders is the ability to deal with an infringement of human rights appropriately rather than the ability to reduce human rights-related risks to zero. It is important for companies to press forward with management measures based on this recognition.
- Companies need to show how it will speed up the measures to raise the human rights-related awareness of its suppliers and other procurement partners. Also, companies should require compliance with its procurement guidelines in the agreements to be concluded with suppliers.
- According to its Human Rights Report 2023, ANA is working to build a human rights due diligence (DD) system and grievance mechanism basically in line with the UNGPs and the OECD guidelines.
