Angkor Wat Restoration Project: 684,000 Miles Donated
To commemorate the inauguration of ANA flights from Tokyo to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2016, ANA joined with Sophia University to help restore Angkor Wat, a Hindu temple complex that is designated a UNESCO world heritage site. ANA Mileage Club members were able to donate miles to help with the project.
Your thoughtful mileage donations allowed ANA to donate 684,000 YEN to Angkor Wat for the restoration of the western entrance passage of Angkor Wat and to purchase tools needed for the restoration.
Sophia University established the Asia Center for Research and Human Development in Cambodia in 1996 under the motto of “Angkor Wat Restoration, by Cambodians, and for Cambodians." For more than 20 years since then, the university has been working to develop human resources in Cambodia for the purpose of restoring Angkor Wat. Professor Yoshiaki Ishizawa has led these activities and was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia's counterpart to the Nobel Prize, in 2017 for his remarkable efforts.
ANA Group will continuously support the preservation and educational programs of World Heritage, and positively cooperate with the Angkor Wat project, which is due to be completed in 2020.
