Taikodani Inari Shrine
The Shrine with the Vermillion Gates
Nicknamed "the little Kyoto of San'in," Tsuwano flourished as a castle town. A walk along its Edo Period-style streets will take you to this bright red shrine.

The Taikodani Inari Shrine was founded in 1773 from Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine by Tsuwano's feudal lord, in the hope that it would bring the town protection, peace and prosperity. It is now counted among Japan's five largest Inari shrines.

A Thousand Beautiful Vermillion Gates
The Taikodani Inari Shrine features a scenic red torii gate path up the mountain to the large shrine grounds. Once at the top you can enjoy the view of Tsuwano and make a prayer by offering fried tofu and candles.
