Oyasukyo Onsen
Enjoy the seasonal beauty of the gorge from a hot spring nestled in steep cliffs
Located in the city of Yuzawa City in Akita Prefecture, Oyasukyo Gorge has V-shaped cliffs resulting from the erosion of the rapid currents of the Minase River over centuries. In contrast to the gorge's beauty in each season, there is Oyasukyo Daifunto where boiling underground water fiercely sprouts out with a gushing sound from the cracks at the bottom of the valley. At the Oyasukyo hot spring village nearby, visitors can soak in the steaming hot spring water sourced from Oyasukyo Daifunto. Along the valley are also natural open-air baths that allow you to enjoy breathtaking views of the gorge.

Hot spring waters where cranes came to be healed
Sourced from spring waters gushing out from the gorge, Oyasukyo Onsen has a long history as a hot spring cure since the Edo Period (1603-1868). Legend has it that the hot spring was discovered as cranes were coming to heal their wounds in the waters. There are two types of water gushing out from four different sources, and the temperate can rise up to 95 degrees. The village is lined with traditional hot spring inns. Some of them even offer foot baths and spring water for drinking.
