Aichi Museum of Flight

Aircraft fans of all ages will delight in the remarkable collection at the Aichi Museum of Flight
In addition to its bustling auto industry, Aichi Prefecture is also the leading hub of the aerospace industry in Japan. The museum exhibits some remarkable actual aircrafts such as the domestically produced YS-11 commercial airliner and the MU-2 twin-engine propeller aircraft. Avid aircraft fans, as well as the entire family, can have a great time getting up close to the fascinating machines, or even experience becoming a pilot!
YS-11, the Japan-manufactured commercial airliner
One of the highlights of the museum is the YS-11, the commercial airliner designed and built by Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation, Japan's first post-war aircraft manufacturer. Its first prototype was assembled and completed at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Komaki Plant in Aichi Prefecture, and the maiden flight took off from Nagoya Airport. Some generations will remember fondly of the times when this airliner connected various corners of Japan since the 1960s. This is a rare chance to see this beloved aircraft right up close.
Job experience programs
Experience becoming an airline pilot! This authentic program starts out with creating a flight plan as the pilot and then boarding a flight simulator to fly to the destination. Participants must be an elementary school student or older. The program lasts about 50 minutes, and sessions are allocated for different age groups. Please check the website for the session times and other details. There is also a program to experience the job of the flight mechanic.
The Science Lab holds various classes on aviation and crafts designed for preschoolers as well as elementary and junior high school students. Learn about the mechanics of how an aircraft flies in the aviation class through experiments, lectures and science shows. Express your artistic side with aircraft-themed activities such as making paper airplanes in the craft-class. Each class lasts around 30 minutes. Please see the museum website for class times and registrations.
