Takayu Onsen
Opaque 100% natural hot spring water in the Azuma Mountains with peaks of 750 meters
Takayu Onsen hot spring resort sits halfway up a slope on the Azuma Mountains. A scenic road called the Bandai-Azuma Skyline winds through these mountains, showcasing some amazing scenic features, such as Mount Azuma Kofuji and the Jododaira Plateau. This hot spring resort has followed a strict policy of maintaining an area free of any entertainment districts throughout its lengthy history of 400 years and attracts a great number of visitors seeking highly therapeutic 100% pure natural sulfuric water, which is something of a rarity in Japan.

100% natural hot spring water with no additives or additional heating
This resort area has seven hotels and one public bath, and in 2010, was the first in the Tohoku region to declare its use of 100% natural hot spring water with no additives or additional heating over the entire area. It was selected as the top onsen in Japan for visitor satisfaction in 2017, and the opaque water is very popular for its therapeutic effects on skin and other health conditions.

Hot spring resort free of entertainment districts
Takayu Onsen has strictly followed a policy of banning any type of entertainment district throughout its 400-year history. The resulting serene atmosphere, surrounded by the deep virgin forests of the Azuma Mountains area, is one of the top reasons it attracts so many visitors. This provides a unique and indulgent experience, especially in this modern age, to relax and bathe in warm, milky-white natural spring water while enjoying stunning seasonal views and the pleasant chirping of wild birds.
