Mount Tanigawa
Mount Tanigawa, a treasure trove of superb views and fun activities
Registered as a UNESCO Eco Park, Minakami in Gunma Prefecture is a town where rich nature and the human society coexist in harmony. The symbol of Minakami is Mount Tanigawa, which has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 mountains. On the ropeway, visitors can enjoy different views for each season such as summer’s fresh greenery, gorgeous foliage in the fall and the snowscape during the winter through spring. The mountain also offers many exciting activities such as climbing in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Watch the starry sky from the nighttime ropeway
Stargazing under the clear sky of Minakami surrounded by abundant nature is an exceptional experience. To provide a stunning view of the starry sky from Mount Tanigawa, the ropeway operates at night during the weekends from early summer to fall. A very special view of a sky full of stars awaits. (For details on operating dates, please check the Tanigawa Ropeway website.)

Tenjindaira Ski Resort
Mount Tanigawa turns into an exciting ski resort during the winter. As you go up the mountain on the ropeway, a scenic slope comes into view. Because the damp air from the sea flows over the mountain and becomes dry to cause snowfall, smooth powder snow can be enjoyed at Mount Tanigawa. Many skiers and snowboarders come from even abroad seeking this superb quality snow.

Ichinokurasawa
Ichinokurasawa can be reached from the base of the ropeway on foot or by electric bus. The magnificent scenery of snow remaining even in midsummer is breathtaking. Known as one of the three major rock faces in Japan, the rugged rock face that attracts alpinists from all over Japan is worth seeing.
