When 2 Sectors Have Different Seasonalities

If a 4-sector itinerary involves flights to/from outlying islands in Okinawa Prefecture (Miyako or Ishigaki) with a connection in Naha, and the sectors have different seasonalities, 25% of the required mileage for each respective sector will be used to calculate the itinerary mileage (the total of each basic sector mileage).

(Example) Roundtrip between Tokyo and Ishigaki via Naha with flights in different seasons

1st sector (Tokyo-Okinawa): Low season (L); Basic sector mileage: 984 miles
2nd sector (Okinawa-Ishigaki): Regular season (R); Basic sector mileage: 247 miles
3rd sector (Ishigaki-Okinawa): Regular season (R); Basic sector mileage: 247 miles
4th sector (Okinawa-Tokyo): Regular season (R); Basic sector mileage: 984 miles

  • The symbol "-" indicates the destination
  • STEP 1 Calculate the Total Basic Sector Mileage
See the mileage chart to check the basic sector mileage for each sector, and then calculate the total basic sector mileage.
    984 miles (1st sector) + 247 miles (2nd sector) + 247 miles (3rd sector) + 984 miles (4th sector) = 2,462 miles
  • STEP 2 Confirm the Sector Mileage
Go to Required Mileage Charts (4 Sectors Involving Okinawa's Outlying Islands) and check the sector mileage under Quick Summary of Required Mileage.
    2,462 falls under the 2,001 - 4,000 mileage range.
  • STEP 3 Confirm Departure Date Seasonalities
Go to the seasonality chart to check the applicable season(s) (low, regular, high season) based on the respective departure dates for your outbound and return flights.
    * The symbol "-" indicates the destination
    1st sector (Tokyo-Okinawa): Low season (L)
    2nd-4th sectors (Okinawa-Ishigaki-Okinawa-Tokyo): Regular season (R)
  • STEP 4 Confirm Required Mileage
Using the Required Mileage Charts (4 Sectors Involving Okinawa's Outlying Islands) , confirm the required mileage based on the mileage ranges and seasons.
For the first sector (2,001-4,000 itinerary miles range in low season), 17,000 miles are required for award redemption.
For the second sector (2,001-4,000 itinerary miles range in regular season), 20,000 miles are required for award redemption.
For the third sector (2,001-4,000 itinerary miles range in regular season), 20,000 miles are required for award redemption.
For the fourth sector (2,001-4,000 itinerary miles range in regular season), 20,000 miles are required for award redemption.
As the itinerary includes different seasons, the required mileage for each sector should be divided by 4 and the resulting amounts should then be combined.
    Required Mileage
    (17,000 miles / 4 =)4,250 miles + (20,000 miles / 4 =)5,000 miles + (20,000 miles / 4 =)5,000 miles + (20,000 miles / 4 =)5,000 miles = 19,250 miles

Refund Charge

Refund charges will not apply.

  • However, once you have been served on Reservation change, if you wish to request a refund based on your own reasons, you will only be able to do so if all sectors are unused and 3,000 miles per person will be required as a refund charge. Please check Refunds for Unused Awards for details.
When All Sectors are Unused

Miles will be refunded to their original mileage account groups. The miles to be refunded will be valid until the end of the month 36 months after the point of refund.

When Some Sectors Have Been Used

Out of the miles that were deducted for flight award redemption, we will calculate how many were used for refundable sectors. The miles to be refunded to settle the difference will be valid until the end of the month 36 months after the point of refund. Furthermore, they will be refunded to their original mileage account groups in accordance with the following order of priority.
Order of priority for refunding: Group 1→2→3→4

  • Expiration dates for refunded mileage will be reset to the most recent accrual month. If some of the miles have expired at the time of refund processing, these expired miles will also be refunded.
Mileage Refund Calculation Method

Number of miles to be refunded = Number of miles used to redeem the unused flight award sector (routes other than those for Okinawa's outlying islands)

Number of miles to be refunded = Miles Used for Award Redemption ÷ Total Itinerary Mileage x Number of Refund-eligible Sectors (Routes to/from Okinawa's Outlying Islands)
