Ganjo-ji Temple Amidado Hall

Shiramizu Amidado Hall, a national treasure representative of the Tohoku region known as the temple of maple trees featured in TV commercials
Shiramizu Amidado Hall is a national treasure architecture located in Ganjo-ji Temple in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. It is said that Princess Tokuhime, daughter of Fujiwara no Kiyohira who had tremendous power in the Tohoku region at that time, built the temple as a memorial for her late husband in 1160. It is a representative building of the late Heian Period (794 -1185), and in addition to the beautiful hall, the Jodo-style garden representing the Buddhist concept of the time is also stunning. Lotus in the summer and the colorful ginkgo and maple leaves in the fall are must-see sights, with illumination events at night during the foliage season.
Imagine ancient times through the foliage lit up on autumn nights
Be sure not to miss the nighttime special openings held in early November annually. The garden is illuminated in the foliage season, and the lit-up ginkgo and maple trees reflecting on the surface of the water is so beautiful that it is sure to take your breath away. The interior of the Shiramizu Amidado Hall that includes the statue of Amida Buddha is also solemnly lit up, and you can listen to lectures in the mystical atmosphere. During the event period, free shuttle buses run from JR Yumoto and Iwaki stations.
