Save to List

A natural paradise of seasonal flowers and plants

Akagi Nature Park is a calming forest located 600 to 700 meters above sea level at the foot of Mount Akagi in Gunma Prefecture. Feel the natural beauty of Japan's four seasons, from the blooming flowers in spring to the summer full of life, fruit-bearing trees and colorful leaves in the fall and the chirping of wild birds in winter. While taking a leisurely stroll, you can observe almost all species of plants and insects that can be found in the northern Kanto region in ways close to their natural habitats.

Ikaho Green Farm

The 400,000-square-meter tourist farm at the foot of Mount Haruna, near Mount Akagi, is home to more than 300 animals including sheep, horses, ponies, goats, rabbits, and sheepdogs living together on the vast green land. The farm offers many programs in which you can learn the value of life while having fun interacting with nature and animals. Other activities include making homemade butter and the sheepdog show which boasts the largest scale in Japan, as well as a sheep-shearing experience during the season. The farms original soft serve ice cream and hamburgers are also very popular. In addition, an amusement park and the Hara Museum ARC are located next to the farm.

Ikaho Onsen

Ikaho Onsen, one of Gunma Prefecture's most famous hot springs, is about a 30-minute drive from Akagi Nature Park. The town exudes a unique atmosphere, centered around a pathway of 365 stone steps stretching 300 meters. Here, you can enjoy two types of hot springs: the Kogane-no-yu (golden hot water) characterized by the color of the water, and the Shirogane-no-yu (silver hot water) which is colorless and transparent. Climb up the stone steps to find Ikaho Shrine and the Kajika Bridge, famous for its beautiful scenery of fall leaves. Onsen-manju buns with brown skin, a staple of hot spring resorts around Japan today, is said to have been born here at Ikaho, made to resemble the golden color of Kogane-no-yu.
