Takeda Shrine
Feel the days of Shingen Takeda’s life at Takeda Shrine in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture
Founded in 1919, Takeda Shrine was created to enshrine Shingen Takeda, a great commander of the Warring States period (late 15th century to late 16th century). It is located in the remains of Tsutsujigasaki Castle, the former residence of three generations of the Takeda clan: Nobutora, Shingen and Katsuyori. The temple grounds feature a treasure hall as well as the Princess Well, which Shingen used as his daughter's first bath, and a moat that remains preserved as they were in the Warring States time.
Treasure hall
A treasure hall can be found to the right behind the hall of worship of Takeda Shrine. In addition to the sword designated as an important cultural property, the hall exhibits numerous items including armor and weapons handed down in the Takeda family as well as the famous war fan which belonged to Shingen. Furthermore, there are many items reminiscent of the Warring States period, such as the painting of the Twenty-Four Generals of Takeda Shingen and various historic documents that will amaze all visitors.
Kofu City Takeda Clan History Museum (Shingen Museum)
Situated right in front of Takeda Shrine, the Shingen Museum helps visitors gain a deeper understanding of the site of the former Takeda residence, where you can learn about its history as well as the ongoing archaeological excavation. There is a permanent exhibition room that introduces the persons involved in the castle ruins and the highlights of the historic landmark, and a special exhibition room that conveys the history of the ruins and the castle town in detail along with various excavated artifacts. The facility also features a virtual reality experience, theater room, cafe, and a souvenir shop.
