Mitsumine Shrine

"Tastes of JAPAN by ANA" is a regional vitalization project that collaborates with the different prefectures in Japan to present the Land of the Rising Sun in all of its diverse glory.

Charge your energy at Mitsumine Shrine, a renowned power spot in Chichibu, Saitama

Located in the mountains of Okuchichibu at 1,100 meters elevation, Mitsumine Shrine is dedicated to Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, the mythical deities said to have given birth to the country of Japan. The divine messenger Oguchi Makami is a wolf believed to have mysterious powers that protects against various misfortunes.

Pass through the triple torii gate to the Zuishinmon Gate

The torii gate of Mitsumine Shrine is a rare design combining three toriis. On the sides of the torii are stone wolves, which Mitsumine Shrine pays homage to, in place of the usual komainu guardian dogs. Pass through the gate and walk a bit further to find the Zuishinmon Gate, which has a different, crisp air surrounded by tall ancient cedars.

Worship hall adorned with richly colored engravings

Walkthrough the Zuishinmon Gate and find the gorgeous worship hall constructed in 1800. The interior ceiling is decorated with images of more than a hundred varieties of flowers and trees found around Okuchichibu. Next to the worship hall are two sacred trees believed to be over 800 years old.

Admire the view from the yohaiden worship hall

Yohaiden, the hall for worshipping from afar, is situated to worship the Okumiya rear shrine resting atop Mount Myohogadake. The panoramic view of the mountains of Chichibu is breathtaking, and if you are lucky, you might even be able to observe a sea of clouds, a mystic phenomenon of looking from a high altitude at a thick fog forming on the ground surface. This is the only location where you can view the grand panorama of a sea of clouds over Chichibu.
