Bicycles and Sporting Equipment [Japan Domestic Flights]

This page provides information regarding checking in or carrying on sporting equipment such as bicycles or golf bags on board. Additional charges will apply for sporting equipment (bicycles, golf bags, etc.) of a size or weight which exceeds the free baggage allowance. The following information applies to flights departing on or after {yyyy-mm-dd-2}.

  • As the various handling procedures will be different for flights operated by Japan Air Commuter and Amakusa Airlines.

Checking in Bicycles or Sporting Equipment

The following sporting equipment can be checked in free of charge if it is within the free baggage allowance stipulated.
(Depending on the loading condition of other checked baggage, we may not accept your bulky baggage even if its length is within the following maximum baggage length. If your bulky baggage cannot be loaded, you may be asked to arrange for delivery such as by using a home delivery service. Please note that if the length of any one side of your baggage exceeds the maximum allowable length, the baggage will not be accepted.)

    Please note that if you pack ski equipment such as skis, poles, snowboards and boots individually, each item will be subject to an excess baggage charge.

If the baggage exceeds the free baggage allowance, it will be subject to the applicable excess baggage charge.
Please note that handling exceeding size (the total linear dimensions) is only different from regular baggage.

  • * Please check the size and weight, then inquire with Reservation and Customer Service Center in Japan or the U.S. in advice about baggage with total linear dimensions that exceed 203 cm.
    Please contact ANA at your earliest convenience as the confirmation may take some time.
  • * If a bicycle is not packaged or protected, or the packaging is not suitable or adequate, please be advised that ANA is not responsible for damage or loss.
  • * Tennis and badminton rackets can be checked in or carried on board if they meet the size requirements.
  • * With the exception of electric bicycles, electric vehicles are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board.
    Furthermore, conditions are in place for the transport of electric bicycles. Please see General Electronic Devices with Built-in or Attached Lithium Batteries before you travel.
  • * Baggage is handled with considerable care, but if the baggage happens to be damaged due to an inherent defect or property, please be advised that ANA will not be liable.

Weight, Size, and Number of Items which can be Checked in Free of Charge

Checked Baggage Containing Bicycles and Sporting Equipment

Checked baggage containing bicycles or sporting equipment which exceeds 23 kg (32 kg for Premium Class passengers) but is within 45 kg per piece will be subject to Excess Baggage Charges. (Excess Baggage Charges will be charged for each flight segment.)

Information For Customers Who Wish to Carry On Excess Baggage

When the allowable size for carry-on baggage is exceeded, you will need to purchase an additional seat.

Points to Note upon Checking in Your Baggage

  • * If a bicycle is not packaged or protected, or the packaging is not suitable or adequate, please be advised that ANA is not responsible for damage or loss.
    • Folding bicycles: Please store in a soft case upon check-in.
    • Not foldable bicycles: Can be checked in if the total linear dimensions are no longer than 292 cm. Please package in a soft case or cardboard box in advance.
  • * Items with total linear dimensions that exceed 292 cm can be checked in provided that they can be loaded in the cargo compartment of the aircraft. However, depending on the aircraft type, checking in for these items may not be available due to limited cargo space. Please check Checking in Bulky Baggage for details on maximum acceptable lengths. For any baggage that exceeds 32 kg in weight and 292 cm in total linear dimensions per piece, please notify us via Reservation and Customer Service Center in Japan or the U.S. in advance. (Please contact us at your earliest convenience as the confirmation may take some time.)
  • * Check in for bulky baggage may not be available due to the conditions of the aircraft used, etc., even if you have notified us in advance. If your bulky baggage cannot be loaded, you may be asked to use a delivery service or other means.
  • * Tennis and badminton rackets can be accepted as carry-on or checked baggage provided that size requirements are met.
  • * With the exception of electric bicycles, electric vehicles are not permitted to be checked in or carried on board.
