Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse

"Tastes of JAPAN by ANA" is a regional vitalization project that collaborates with the different prefectures in Japan to present the Land of the Rising Sun in all of its diverse glory.

Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse reopened in 2015 after 110 years since its founding

From the Meiji period (1868-1912) through the early Showa period (1926-1989), the city of Tsuruga in Fukui Prefecture prospered as an international city that linked Japan to continental Europe through Russia. Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse is a symbolic structure from this period that was constructed in 1905. Today, the buildings have been completely renovated to showcase the many attractions of Tsuruga, with the North Building becoming the Diorama Building depicting railways and ports, and the South Building serving as the Restaurant Building.

Diorama Building of Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouse

A recreation of the Tsuruga townscape during the late Meiji to early Showa periods, the Diorama Building is one of the largest of its kind in the country, with fun hands-on activities such as driving a model train and augmented reality experiences. Additionally, an exhibit on Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat stationed in Lithuania who saved the lives of numerous Jewish refugees during World War II, shows another side of Tsuruga's history.
