Kikuchi Valley

"Tastes of JAPAN by ANA" is a regional vitalization project that collaborates with the different prefectures in Japan to present the Land of the Rising Sun in all of its diverse glory.

Refreshing breeze from greenery and water A perfect place for a hill station, the Kikuchi Valley

The Kikuchi Valley is located in a corner of the Aso Kuju National Park in the northeastern part of Kikuchi city, and the subterranean river water springing from Aso somma is so pure that it could be selected as one of the Selected One Hundred Exquisite Waters of Japan.

The clear stream, which feels cool even in the summer, is also called a "natural cooler,” making it the perfect place for a hill station.

Through the slender natural regenerative broad-leaved trees, the stream flows, showing varied appearances such as fast and shallow or wide and deep, fountains, and waterfalls. It is a superb display of beautiful water and greenery.

Admission to the valley was regulated after the damage caused by the Kumamoto earthquake, but it was reopened from March 24, 2018.
Some parts are under maintenance and cannot be accessed.
