A romantic boat ride through the lotus blossoms
Izunuma-Uchinuma is a famous wintering site for Whooper swans in Japan, but come summer, it offers a breathtaking view of a blanket of flowering lotus blossoms covering the surface of the lake. The Lotus Festival is held during the peak period in which you can enjoy large pink lotus flowers blooming over the water. Take a boat ride tour through the lake to view the beautiful flowers up close.
One of Japan's largest wintering sites for Whooper swan
Registered under the Ramsar Convention since 1985, Izunuma-Uchinuma is recognized as a wetland of international importance to be preserved, and it is one of the major wintering sites for migratory birds in Japan. A huge number of Whooper swans and geese, among other birds, flock there, and the quiet lake becomes filled with migratory birds. The scene of tens of thousands of birds taking flight all at once to feed in the early morning is truly spectacular. The geese that return to the lake flying in a beautiful V formation at sundown are also worth seeing. It is a paradise for winter birds among majestic nature.
