ANA and OpenJaw Collaborate to Create NDC Platform

  • •Airline and vendor to collaborate on the creation of new state-of-the-art booking platform.
  • •Launch is planned for the second half of the fiscal year 2019.

TOKYO, April 15, 2019 - All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan's largest and 5-Star airline for seven consecutive years, will be working with OpenJaw Technologies (OpenJaw) to create a New Distribution Capability (NDCblank) platform. This advanced new platform will streamline communication between airlines and air ticket distributors such as online search engines and travel agents, leading to benefits for consumers.

Ireland-based OpenJaw is a respected leader in digital travel retail, with a strong presence in Europe and Asia. OpenJaw has a team of talented developers and skilled specialists ready to collaborate with ANA in the development of an NDC platform that will increase ANA's accessibility for distributors. The goal is to use OpenJaw's NDC platform to enable distribution partners to link directly to ANA's reservation system which will streamline the booking process for consumers.

"OpenJaw is a perfect partner for ANA since both companies place an emphasis on setting the standard for excellence in their respective industries," said Akihiko Miura, Executive Vice President of ANA. "As we collaborate to streamline the booking process, ANA is proud to have a partner that shares its values."

"ANA always strives to innovate and bring the latest technology to passengers to improve safety, convenience and efficiency," said Mitsuo Tomita, Senior Vice President of ANA. "NDC will enhance flexibility and have the potential to improve sales. We are planning to integrate the NDC platform in an intuitive way so that ANA will become Japan's NDC leader."

"We are proud to have been chosen as ANA's preferred technology partner for NDC," said Kieron Branagan, CEO of OpenJaw Technologies. "According to IATA, the NDC standard will enable airlines to transform the way air products are retailed by addressing the industry's current distribution limitations. OpenJaw is an IATA NDC and IATA ONE Order Strategic Partner with Level 3 NDC Certification and is committed to transforming airline retailing through the use of NDC standards."

With new customization options, the NDC platform represents a shift in how tickets will be purchased through distributors. The integrated ANA NDC Platform will set the standard for convenience while also delivering wider opportunities for passengers to purchase optional services - such as lounge accessblank - through the distributor's webpage. The dedicated team of professionals building the global NDC platform is targeting a roll-out in the second half of the fiscal year 2019.

To keep the NDC Platform up-to-date, ANA will provide the latest in-flight seat and service images, allowing passengers to make informed choices. Once the NDC Platform has been launched, ANA will work to collaborate with well-known travel fare aggregator websites to expand access to travel agents and service providers.
