Sydney Airport (SYD) to Sydney City

Airport Shuttle Bus

Several companies operate shuttle buses from Sydney International Airport (International and Domestic terminals). The buses go to each of the hotels in downtown Sydney.

  • Boarding point: Airport shuttle bus boarding points are in front of the arrival halls of the International Terminal (T1) and Domestic Terminals (T2, T3). Departures every 15 to 60 minutes, but early-morning and late-night buses may depart as soon as boarding capacity is reached.
  • Time required: Approx. 20 to 80 min. (varies greatly depending on the hotel as it goes around to all the hotels).
  • Fare: A$22 to 29 per person to hotels in downtown Sydney.
  • Operating hours: All companies offer shuttle bus services from early morning to late at night.

Train

You can use the Airport Link Sydney train that runs through the city.
Opal Cards are rechargeable smart cards for use on all public transport within Sydney. They are available at the concourses at the Sydney Airport stations. You can also use compatible AMEX, VISA, and Master Cards instead of an Opal Card. If you have absolutely no plan to use public transportation while in Sydney, you can get Opal single tickets for one-time use, although they are comparatively expensive.
Airport Link is this train goes through the "Airport International" international terminal station and "Airport Domestic" domestic terminal station, and enters a loop line that moves around the center of Sydney in a horseshoe shape (counterclockwise).
It goes to the city center via Sydney Central station, Museum station, St James station, Circular Quay station, Wynyard station, and Town Hall station and then loops back to Sydney Central station. If you have a lot of luggage and need a taxi to pick you up, it is best to go to Sydney Central station, Circular Quay station, or Wynyard station.

  • Time required: From the international terminal station it is 13 min. to Sydney Central station, 22 min. to Circular Quay station, and 23 min. to Wynyard station.
  • Fare: Adults A$20.99 to A$22.56 (Opal single ticket is A$24.00), children A$17.32 to A$18.11 (Opal single ticket is A$18.70)/ Domestic Terminal Sta. to Sydney City Circle: Adults A$20.28 to A$21.54(Opal single ticket is A$22.70), children A$16.97 to A$17.60 (Opal single ticket is A$18.10).
  • Operating hours: Weekdays: International terminal station: first train at 4:22, last train at 0:57 (3 to 8 services per hour) / Weekends: International terminal station: first train at 4:42, last train at 0:27 (3 to 8 services per hour).

Taxi

  • Platform: There are taxi stops outside each arrival lobby in the international terminal (T1) and domestic terminals (T2).
  • Time required: About 20 to 30 min.
  • Fare: A$60 to A$100 to central Sydney (Fares vary greatly depending on traffic conditions and whether you use the toll roads.)
  • Operating hours: 24 hours

Uber and other rideshare services

  • Platform: Ridesharing has been legalized in Australia and can be used with an app after arrival at the airport by completing a vehicle dispatch procedure. Rideshare pickup locations are available outside the arrival halls at both the International Terminal (T1) and Domestic Terminal (T2).
  • Time required: About 20 to 30 min.
  • Fare: About A$70 to 100 to reach the center of Sydney
