Stricter regulations for visa-free stay in Austria.
From October 22, 2024, the regulations for visa-free stay in Austria for Japanese nationals have been tightened.
Please be careful when visiting Austria without a visa (visiting friends, sightseeing, business trip, etc.) or when entering Austria without a visa and applying for a residence permit afterwards.

Implementation of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) in EU Member Countries
The operation of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) will commence on October 12, 2025.
The EU member countries implementing EES will roll out the system at their external borders in a phased manner.
This means that data collection at border crossing points will begin incrementally and is expected to be fully implemented by April 10, 2026.

Since the boarding gate check-in counters might be subject to change, please check at the airport to the day of departure.

On level 3 of Terminal 3, there is Gates G, toilets, ATMs, a currency exchange booth, escalators and an elevator. On level 2, there are immigration booths. After passing through immigration, proceed to level 0. On level 2, there are also toilets, escalators and elevators, while on level 1, there is Gates F, escalators and elevators. On level 0, there is the baggage claim area and customs. There also are toilets, an information counter, ATMs, a currency exchange booth, escalators and elevators. Upon leaving the building, there are bus stops and taxi stands.

Please follow the red line for customers who need to submit a tax application at Customs or the green line for customers who do not need to make a declaration.

Airport map information

On level 1 of Terminal 3, there are ANA check-in and ticketing counters. After check-in, proceed to security or the priority security lane. After passing through security, go up to level 2. On level 1, there are also toilets, Gates F, escalators, elevators, and the VAT refund application counter for items in checked baggage.
If any items in your checked baggage are subject to VAT, please complete a Digital Export Validation (DEV) in the Digital Export Validation (DEV) area prior to check-in.
On level 2, there are immigration booths. After passing through immigration, go up to level 3. On level 2, there are toilets, escalators and elevators. On level 3, there are Gates G, toilets, ATMs, a currency exchange booth, escalators, elevators, the VAT refund application counter for items in carry-on baggage, and the tax refund counter. Passengers who wish to apply for VAT refunds for items in their carry-on baggage should have their VAT refund application form stamped and then receive the refund at the tax refund counter.

A value-added tax (VAT) is applied to items purchased in Austria or other EU countries, but visitors may apply for the refund of the tax.

Please go up by the escalator located at the right side and pass through Security Check. Then please proceed to boarding gate.

Please proceed to "Gates G" as shown by the display from the arrival floor. Go through Immigration, and proceed to the boarding gate for your ANA flight.

Please proceed to "Gates G" as shown by the display from the arrival floor. Go through Security Check, and proceed to the boarding gate for your ANA flight.

About the Schengen Agreement

The establishment of the EU and the tying of the Schengen Agreement have greatly simplified entry and departure procedures within Europe. The Schengen Agreement was first signed in 1985 in Schengen, a small town in Luxembourg, and implemented in 1995.

Once a Japanese national has arrived at one of country, travel within the country is treated as "internal (domestic)" travel. The entry procedures for Japanese nationals are as follows.

Disembarkation (entry) procedures

When traveling to a Schengen country via another Schengen country

Entry procedures are taken only in the first country of arrival.

Customs inspection for carry-on baggage is made at the first country of arrival and at the final destination for checked-in baggage.

Example: Haneda(Japan) to Madrid(Spain) via Frankfurt(Germany)

Entry procedures and customs inspection for carry-on baggage is processed in Frankfurt(Germany). Customs inspection for checked-in baggage is processed in Madrid(Spain).

Embarkation (departure) procedures

When traveling from a Schengen country via another Schengen country

The departure procedures are taken only in the last Schengen country to be departed from. The customs inspection is made at the destination country.

Example: Madrid(Spain) to Haneda(Japan) via Frankfurt(Germany)

The departure procedures are taken in Frankfurt(Germany), and customs inspection done in Haneda(Japan).

Train

Vienna Airport Railway Station (Flughafen Wien Bahnhof) is connected to the underground passageways from the arrivals hall and there are platforms for the private City Airport Train and Austrian Federal Railways (called OBB). From the OBB platform, the S-Bahn suburban railway (S7) and Railjet high speed train go in to Vienna.

Taxi

Platform: Near the arrivals lobby exit
Time required: About 30 min.
Fare: The fare to Vienna's city center is €45 to €55. There are fixed rate Airport Taxis that can be ordered at the counter on the arrival floor displaying the sign, "CITY TRANSFER / FIXED RATE."
The fare to a hotel in the city center is around €42 and may change due to the taxi company, type of vehicle, number of passengers, and amount of luggage. (It is customary to provide a tip of about 10% of the fare)
