Standby is available if seats are not available on your preferred flight.
You can check standby status at the airport in real time from ANA Website.

Changes to Standby at the Airport

Standby at the airport will change as of April 1, 2020.

How to Request Make a request for a specific route. Make a request for your preferred flight (a request can be made for multiple flights).

How You Are Notified and Procedures Thereafter A staff member calls your standby reference number over an announcement and then performs the necessary procedures. After confirming your standby reference number and part of your name on the digital sign, you can complete the necessary procedures on a self-service check-in machine.

The same handling also applies for flights operated with partner airline's* aircraft and crew.

Example of Digital Sign Display

If we manage to secure you a seat, we will display your standby reference number and part of your name on the digital sign near the relevant boarding gate. After confirming these detail, please go to a self-service check-in machine to complete the necessary procedures.

Standby at the Airport (From April 1, 2020)

STEP1

Issue a standby card from a self-service check-in machine

If you have a reservation for a date on which you would like to board a flight, complete boarding procedures and then request to be placed on standby for the relevant flight.

STEP2

After issuing your standby card, pass through security

Scan your 2D barcode (e-Ticket itinerary receipt, boarding pass), ANA Card with IC (Rakuten Edy or Suica) functionality, ANA Mileage Club Edy Card, or OSAIFU-KEITAIⓇ against the reader.

STEP3

After being notified via the digital sign, go to a self-service check-in machine to check in

After confirming your standby reference number and part of your name, please go to a self-service check-in machine to check in.

STEP1

Issue a standby card from a self-service check-in machine

Issue a standby card. To do this, scan your e-Ticket itinerary receipt, boarding pass or ANA Mileage Club card on the the self-service check-in machine.
Select the flight for which you would like to be placed on standby.

Notes
  • Please pay for your flight ticket before making your request.
  • Standby requests can only be made on a same-day basis.
  • If you have a reservation for a date on which you would like to board a flight, please complete boarding procedures and then request to be placed on standby for the relevant flight.
  • If you already have a flight reservation, you can make a standby request for a flight with an earlier departure time.
  • Standby requests can be made for same-day connecting flights, but they must be made at an airport counter as the necessary procedures cannot be completed on a self-service check-in machine.
  • Standby requests for Premium Class are handled before those for Economy Class.
STEP2

After issuing your standby card, pass through security

Take your standby card and proceed to security. Scan your e-Ticket itinerary receipt, boarding pass or ANA Mileage Club Card against the reader at security.

Notes
  • From April 1, 2020, passengers will be notified of standby request results in the gate area past security at all airports.
  • Even if you have an open ticket (i.e., you purchase a ticket for a specific sector without reserving a flight), please scan that ticket against the reader at security after making your standby request on your preferred departure date.
STEP3

After being notified via the digital sign, go to a self-service check-in machine to check in

Time

A call will be made 20 minutes prior to departure time.

Place

Please proceed to the designated "place" near the time for start of call.
The "place" will be stated on your standby numbered tickets.

Baggage

Please notify the attendant if you would like to check in baggage and bring it to the counter or boarding gate.

If you would like to check in a pet, please pay the pet fee at the "baggage counter" before passing through departure security.

Order of the standby call

The digital signs near boarding gates will display the standby reference numbers and the partial names of the passengers for whom we manage to secure seats, and this information will be shown by flight.
If your standby reference number and part of your name is displayed, please go to the self-service check-in machine near the boarding gate to complete the necessary procedures.

Notes
  • Even if your standby reference number and part of your name is displayed, you will not be able to board the flight if you do not complete the necessary procedures on the self-service check-in machine.
  • For certain tickets, the necessary procedures cannot be performed on a self-service check-in machine. If you find yourself in this situation, please let a member of staff know so that they can complete the procedures.

Standby Categories and Order for Securing Seats

Seats are secured for passenger categories in the order shown below.
Please note that the order in which seats are secured for passengers within the same category will be determined based on the fare type of the flight ticket for which the standby request was made.

Standby Reception Counter

Standby status for individual routes can be checked using the button below.

  • Standby reception counters vary from airport to airport.
  • Please proceed to the counter after paying for your ticket.
  • Standby numbered tickets issued via Automated Check-in Machine (only if without reservation).
STEP2

Issue of numbered ticket

You will be issued with a standby numbered tickets. Please present your "e-Ticket receipt" or ANA Mileage Club Card.
Take a standby numbered tickets and proceed to Security checkpoint. Standby numbered tickets cannot be issued for a specific flights.

STEP3

Call

Time

A call will be made 25 minutes prior to departure time.

Place

Please proceed to the designated "standby counter" near the time for start of call.
The "standby counter" will be stated on your standby numbered tickets.

Baggage

Please notify the attendant if you would like to check in baggage and bring it to the counter or boarding gate.

The call will be made for each route by type and number shown below.
Your standby numbered ticket will become invalid if you fail to respond when called.
