This page provides information regarding checking in or carrying on musical instruments on board.
If you wish to carry a musical instrument on board of a size which exceeds the free baggage allowance for carry-on baggage, you will be required to pay the Cabin Baggage Fees and purchase an additional seat.
As the various handling procedures will be different for flights operated by Japan Air Commuter and Amakusa Airlines, you are kindly requested to see the information on the Japan Air Commuter or Amakusa Airlines page before you travel on such flights.
Rental of guitar and small instrument cases has been discontinued as of January 31, 2026.
They may be carried onto the aircraft as carry-on baggage.
However, please notify ANA airport staff if the length of any of the three dimensions exceeds 55 cm, 40 cm, or 25 cm (45 cm, 35 cm, and 20 cm for smaller aircraft). We will check the size. Please store your instrument in the overhead compartment.

An excess baggage charge will be charged, if the free baggage allowance is exceeded. However, special handling applies to baggage that exceeds the size (total linear dimensions) limit.
Please notify ANA by phone in advance about baggage with total linear dimensions that exceed 203 cm (80 in.). Please contact ANA at your earliest convenience as the confirmation may take some time.

Please check the examples of how large musical instruments, such as a double bass, must be secured to a seat when carried in the cabin.
Double Bass Securing Procedure
Note: Solid lines (dark) indicate the front and dotted lines (light) indicate the back.
Raise the armrests between the seats and place the double bass onto the seats.
Attach two extension belts to the seat belt on the right side of Seat G. Pass them from the front to the back of the double bass, and fasten them to the left side of Seat F (marked in Red).
Attach two extension belts to the seat belt on the left side of Seat G. Pass them from the back to the front of the double bass, loop them underneath, and fasten them to the right side of Seat F (marked in Blue).
Wrap the seat belt on the right side of Seat E around the neck of the double bass once and fasten it to the left side of Seat E (marked in Yellow). Follow the same procedure for Seat D, wrapping the right-side belt around the neck and fastening it to the left side (marked in Green).
Note: The double bass may also be positioned in the opposite direction.
Use blankets as padding to protect the instrument where it comes into contact with the seat belt buckles, the seat cushion, or the backrest.

If you wish to check in a contrabass, please contact the ANA Domestic Reservation and Customer Service Center in advance, regardless of whether you wish to borrow a contrabass case or not.
We can lend you a contrabass case if you make a reservation for one no later than 2 days prior to the departure date.
Please note that you will not be able to borrow a contrabass case if you do not reserve it in advance.
Due to limited storage space in the cargo departments of the DH4, CR7, AT4, AT7, AR4 aircraft types, contrabasses cannot be accepted on these aircraft types.
The weight of the ANA rental case (45 kg) is included in the passenger's own baggage weight.

We can lend you a contrabass case if you make a reservation for one no later than 2 days prior to the departure date. Please contact the ANA Domestic Reservation and Customer Service Center in advance regardless of whether you wish to borrow a contrabass case or not.
Please check in your instrument at least 50 minutes (Haneda airport: 60 minutes) before the departure time of your flight.
Violin cases of a size allowed for carry-on are available for passengers who wish to carry their violin on board.
Even if your personal violin case exceeds the size restrictions for carry-on baggage, you can carry your violin and the bows on board if you carry them in this particular violin case lent to customers for this purpose.
Please stow the borrowed violin case in the overhead compartment and check in your personal violin case.
